Re-routes, Harry Styles, and NYC?! | Day 3 of Maine Trip

August 18, 2015

I’m going to start this post off in the wee hours of the morning. We didn’t book a hotel for that night, so we were driving straight from Nashville to DC.

It was probably around 3am or so, when we decided to re-route and go straight to NYC instead. The only thing we really wanted to do in DC was see the Mall and the White House. Another reason why we rerouted was because I got a notification from some blogs I follow that Harry Styles was in NYC at that very moment. So we decided to head there and hopefully see if we could spot him. By the time we got to NYC, he was already getting on a plane to Brussels, where One Direction is playing a show, which was a bummer. But we saved some money by not stopping in NYC, so we weren’t too upset.

Morgan drove most of the way to DC, and I began driving around 8am. Let me just say that the tolls on the East coast are terrible. In Texas, our tolls are from $0.75 to $2, but here it’s $14. Our last trip up here we spend over $30 in tolls and we hadn’t planned on it because we didn’t realize how much the tolls were.

Once we got to our hotel in NYC, it was around 12pm. The parking at our hotel was terrible. I scratched the side of my car trying to turn in the parking lot and I’m kind of upset about it. It’s not too bad, but I’m still a little annoyed. The hotel clerk sent someone to clean the room, so we could check in a little early, which was really nice of him.

While waiting for our room to be ready, we walked over to a Subway (the sandwich shop), to use the restroom and get some lunch. That took enough time that when we walked back to the hotel, we were able to go into our room. The room was really nice and the view was incredible. We had a view of the skyline and the Queens Bridge. It was beautiful, especially at night.

Once we showered and got ready, it was about 3:30pm and we left to catch the subway to Times Square.

After walking around Times Square for a little bit, we headed over to McGee’s Pub, where we had reservations. The pub is the what inspired the MacLaren’s Pub in How I Met Your Mother. We all got Caesar salads and Haley got the Tootsie Roll, which is a coffee liqueur and root beer drink, and I got the S.O.B., which is a vanilla vodka and cola drink. Haley let me try hers and both were really good.

After eating and buying a shirt, we headed over towards the NYU area to go to the e.l.f studio and The Strand, which is a bookstore that has used books for $0.48-$5. Morgan and I bought a few books, although I only spent $5, which was really surprising, considering I got 4 or 5 books.

After purchasing the books, we headed to the subway to go back to our hotel. We got back somewhat late, so it was nerve wracking walking from the subway station to our hotel. The area we were in wasn’t the safest, but we got back okay.

That’s all that happened, all we did after that was shower (second shower of the day), ate our leftover Subway sandwiches (which were actually frozen from the freezer part of the mini fridge) , and got into bed.

Let me know in the comments below if you’ve ever been to New York and what your favorite part is. I plan to go back as soon as I can. I think it’d look beautiful during Christmas time.

All the love, B.
